Gehl

Long before AI entered the conversation, Gehl challenged traffic-centric planning by bringing data on people and public life into urban decision-making. In Times Square, making pedestrians visible in the data helped change how New York saw one of its most famous streets. The question behind that work still holds today: who shows up in the data we plan with, and who is left out?

Liselott Stenfeldt leads Gehl's work on urban data, combining a background in architecture with more than a decade in digital technology. Her focus is a softer, human-centred approach to technology, using layered data and broader community involvement to plan cities that are inclusive, equitable and rooted in local culture. In this talk, she shares three projects that show how this thinking is evolving, and where AI might take it next.
